Q. Please tell us what you think of the original story.
Nijiro: I think that we, the readers and the characters, would like to know what is going on in this work, how it works, and what the mysteries are. I think it's important to have originality in the lineage of survival games that have existed in the history of entertainment. This work surpasses my expectations, and it was interesting to see how it betrayed my expectations.
Q. What did you find attractive about Chishiya?
Nijiro: Chishiya in this work is a little different from the other characters. The way he looks, the way he dresses, and the way he looks at you can show the way he lives. Of course, you can't read everything from his appearance.
What Chishiya is thinking, what he's struggling with, what kind of life he's led, that mystery is what makes him attractive.
Q. Did you find any similarities with Chishiya?
Nijiro: The similarity is that he doesn't move too much. When Aso Haro, the author of the original story, was on the set, we went out for dinner. What was important to me was that Aso-san's most hated self was Chishiya.
Chishiya is a lump of self-loathing, the incarnation of it. Chishiya is cool, but he's the embodiment of what he hates about himself, so he hates him, but he also loves him. Isn't it irresistible if such a thing is said?
Q. Please tell us about your favorite scene or game.
Nijiro: Shibuya scene, where there are no people is amazing, including the technical aspects. Also, the coolness of Tsuchiya Tao's appearance in the scene. It's amazing. I can't compare to that scene.
Q. Was there anything you were particular about in your role?
Nijiro: Chishiya is not a role that is created from blood and flesh, and he is a character with brains. I think it's the same with any character, but it was difficult to read and understand the essence of him, and how much to show it, because there are micro expressions. When he doesn't show up, he doesn't show up at all, and when he does, he shows up a lot. I enjoyed playing that part.
Q. What kind of roles would you like to play in the future?
Nijiro: I'd like to be a de-stereotype. I would like to play the roles of people who are treated as minorities. It's not that I haven't played such roles before, but they are in an inconvenient world, aren't they? They are often thought of as disadvantaged by others, but some people feel that way, while others do not. It's fun to learn about such things as a person, and I think it's meaningful to be able to play such a role.
Q. How do you feel about the year 2020?
Nijiro: I think the pace of work is very fast when you are doing this job in Japan. I feel this way especially when there are only 5 days between films and when there are promotions for previous films in between shoots. At best, I can gain experience quickly. But there are times when I am too busy to keep up with my studies. So I took some time off to relax, look at what I wanted to look at, and look at myself. It was just the time I needed, so I thought it was great.
