the GazettE have announced three fan club-only tours, the first tour starting off at Zepp Tokyo on March 10th with NAMELESS LIBERTY DISORDER HEAVEN, dedicated to the first two albums released by the band: DISORDER in 2004 and NIL in 2006. As it’s been almost ten years since the release of their first album, it promises to be a night with nostalgia and memories.
The members make their stage entry, taking their places while the first song of NIL, The End, plays as the intro. Ruki is the last one to get on stage. He joins the other members standing around the drummer and the band starts off with Nausea & Shudder. The fans immediately join them by shouting “Hey,” their fists in the air. Aoi plays his part of the guitar solo to perfection before fellow guitarist Uruha takes over and finishes the impressive guitar play.
In the background, an image of Maria is hoisted up. Part of her head is a skull and she holds the head of Jesus. The image is reminiscent of the album cover of DISORDER and with this image hanging high and visible, the GazettE kick off with The $ocial riot Machine$. It’s a continuation of the loud, heavy and energetic atmosphere with lots of headbanging and shouting along with the vocalist who, during the song, dances a bit and walks around the stage. The band members are full of energy, sometimes switching places or leaning towards the audience.
The next number of songs show a different side to the rockish, almost punkish repertoire of their early days. They’re slow-paced compared to the previous songs, the stage covered in dim light with a landscape as background. The vocalist starts off singing the first part a capella and creates an ambience that fits perfectly with the surroundings, strengthening the performance. The switch between the fast-paced energetic songs and the slower, dark songs is well-chosen. The guitarists start off acoustic in D.L.N., Uruha later on switching to electric while Ruki screams out a part of the lyrics before continuing in a deep and clear voice again.
A disco ball starts spinning, coloring the darkened hall. It’s SILLY GOD DISCO that breaks the dark ambience. The Maria image, which was gone for a bit, comes up again. Ruki stands ready with a red loudspeaker in his hand and replaces the microphone with this device. He walks around the stage, watching the audience jump up and down with their hands up in the air. The band continue the energetic playing and in Anti Pop, they get the audience to sing the chorus, the vocalist partially singing along with them. The crowd shouts and sings when needed, seeming to know all the hand movements by heart and doing them in unison, showing their dedication.
Reita and Kai return on stage after a short break. They take their positions and begin playing together, starting the encore. They get the crowd excited with Ride with the Rockers. The bassist screams to the audience, getting reactions from the crowd. He continues the call-response for a while and then the attention goes back the drummer who first talks to the audience before continuing to play and both guitarists join the two on stage. It’s the only song of the set list that is played without the singer. Ruki appears on stage after the end of the song and they continue with Akai one piece.
The catchy rhythm of LINDA ~candydive pinky heaven~ begins, cannons blowing confetti into the hall, starting the up-beat song with a blast. Fans start crowd surfing, not stopping till the set is over. The band continue to keep the audience energetic till the end, ending the set with Kantou dogeza kumiai. A few girls on the balcony fall on their knees, headbanging to the fullest, knowing it’s the last song they can go wild on. The band extend the song, playing the same chords and rhythm for a while, not wanting to end it yet. More and more people crowd surf as the concert approaches its end. The band thanks the crowd and leaves the stage after throwing some picks, drumsticks and bottles of water towards the audience.
As Zepp Tokyo is the first venue of the GazettE's STANDING LIVE TOUR14 NAMELESS LIBERTY DISORDER HEAVEN, the band delivered a great show and created expectations for upcoming concerts and tours. The last concert of the fanclub-only tour will be at the end of March. The second tour, dedicated to the albums STACKED RUBBISH and DIM, will be held in summer. The last part will be held in autumn. Within a year, the GazettE will have played most of their repertoire they created in twelve years. It’s surely a chance for people to hear songs they weren’t expecting to hear at lives anymore.
