In any case since Drums are the foundation, everyone is sensitive to the sounds of the Drum.Then, a question like "We have always done our work in the rehasuta [Rehearsal studio], so in the actual recording studio what kind of style should we adapt during the recording?" pops up, and we tried many things, and we decided on it [the style to adapt] after thorough considerations.
Is there any kind of theme?
-When I get to a point where I knew "while we get along, the sound that I elaborated will match", I would remain composed. The point is, making sounds that are remote from live sounds, into live sounds*. [This sentence and the next few had the kanjis 生音 and I don't know what's the exact meaning. Would appreciate if someone could help. Thanks ~_~] For example spreading a thick paper above the Tam-Tam [a part of the Drums] produces a dull mute. Then a nice feeling of low comes out. So far there are parts of recording that are based on live sounds, but if I place it in a direction where I completely elaborate it, the sound for this time would be decided. It took quite some time, but it was right to do so. What's left, is just the playstyle.
Playstyle as in?
-Like how composed should I play my drums.
(Laughs) Is that also the basics of the basic?
-(Laughs) It is so, but it is difficult to not show my habits and play the drums normally. I think that everyone have their own habits, but if we get rid of it, won't it become an easy feat [to play the songs]? If it's the case of a acoustic instrument, it would be relatively easy. Although I think that Ruki's song is the same as well, but it would seem like he's singing while getting rid of the habits*. [Sorry not really clear what he means here] The point is to hit the drums all equally. It's the kind of level where in the studio within 1 hour, I have to hit 8 beats.
Under so much of effort to record "LEECH", how is the finish?
-I totally flowed along naturally. After that, I purely have the impression that I seem to like Ruki. (Laughs) The part where the climax [of the song] extends there's not much trouble handling it, just a big swing [I believe this refers to the guitars] and it becomes a phrase, and things like the A melody in the introduction goes well with the Bass Drums. [A part of the Drum set, the biggest drum where you have to press the pedal]
Did you know anything with regards to the contents of the song lyrics?
-Kind of. I had the kind of feeling like "Ah, it's like that". (Laughs) At the beginning, the temporary title of Uruha's song "DISTORTED DAYTIME" belonged to that kind of category.
Anger-like? [of category ; by the way here the interviewer refers to the temporary title]
-Yes yes. (Laughs) In the beginning I could already get the image [of the song] from the temporary title. But for "LEECH" it remained the same. [meaning "LEECH" had no temporary title] ......But at first I didn't know that riーchi [how japanese pronounce Leech in english] is actually "hiru" [the japanese equivalent of Leech]. I thought that it was the Mahjong's riーchi. Like, just one more step? [reference to Mahjong, riーchi means just one more step to complete the game]
(Laughs) Well, I think generally everyone would think of that. [when riーchi is mentioned]
-You are right. I'm relieved. (Laughs)
How was "DISTORTED~"?
-This song except for the drums, everyone in the string instruments did unison, and there is an arrangement [in the song] where there was a meaning that there is no way to escape. So I had made a decision. Like "For this part use the Bass Drums right?". Basically, it's something like we still have the ideal shape [of the song] from the original song maker, and from there we add things that we think can work. But, I thought that I was new to this kind of song. I was able to do it easily, and I could relax. It is instead the next song, that requires more elaboration.
It's "HOLE".
-"LEECH" and "DISTORTED~" used the same tuning [of instruments] during the recording while we couldn't decide on a sound for "HOLE", and the phrases are hard. ...... It's hard (to think within an instance)! I was like "Now that the recording is over, can I still play [the same beats]?", I was a little uneasy. (Laughs)
The way it [the instruments in "HOLE"] sounds is clearly different from the other two songs.
-I changed the sneer and the hat [hi-hat] , and I made the Tam [tam-tam] in such a way that it wouldn't sound. The phrase which I'm hitting, the style doesn't change, and I have to put my heart and soul into it.
Placing Aoi-kun's song in, gave the Single some colors overall. [meaning there is variety]
-Aoi-kun had said it himself once, mix the sequence of "LEECH" and "DISTORTED~", and lastly "HOLE", and he's like "This is the only one that's different. Obviously this is done in a rush". (Laughs) But I think this fits into the atmosphere.
Although I couldn't decide clearly at first, but after I heard the other two songs, I feel cheerful. (Laughs)
-(Laughs) Even though we said things like "There is a goofy kind of feeling", but actally there's nothing like that. I thought that it is very cool. But it's just that it's very difficult. I devoted myself to play the phrases quite much, but except for the places where I make decisions are curved, the rest extends straight. [Not clear what he's talking about, sorry]

-Ahaha. I have yet to reach there yet.

-Quite true.

-(Laughs) There was once, where Ruki sat on the drumsets and said something like "It's this kind of feeling", and tried to convey the nuance to me without using anything with regards to rhythm. [meaning Ruki tried to explain to Kai without using any instruments and what not] But I couldn't get it, so I told him "Then, try to play the drums a little" [to explain the nuance]. Then, when Ruki plays it while everyone was commenting about his playing, he said to me "I can't stand being criticised in this position [drummer]".***

-I was told "Become mentally tough". (Laughs)
Ruki had experienced the suffering of Kai-kun. (Laughs) And you played "LEECH" for the first time at Fujiki.
