Q. When do you feel your heart is beating so fast?
Kamenashi: No matter what kind of job I’m doing, I’m always so nervous that my heart beats so fast. Though I tried not to think too much about it, sometimes I was overthinking that I couldn’t sleep… When I was younger, I did my job without thinking too much. Like when we were doing “Shuji to Akira”, I just followed the momentum (laugh). When we appeared in a music program as “Kame to YamaP” 3 years ago, we encouraged each other at the backstage saying, “Let’s do our best!”. We were even more nervous than any new artists (laugh).
Yamashita: A few days ago, I challenged myself to do an Instagram live for the first time! I’m basically a type of person who doesn’t talk much, so I was really nervous. I practiced alone in the morning and even wrote down what I was going to say (laugh). I secretly put a cue card on the place which couldn’t be seen on the camera and I had done all sorts of preparation I could, but I was still trembling. Time lag happened too and I still couldn’t grasp the feeling of it, so next time I will do it while reading the comments so you can feel the “live” vibe more.
Q. What do you feel about restarting?
Kamenashi: Just to imagine standing on the stage of the dome as “Kame to YamaP”, I already feel so excited now! We had experiences from the countdown live, but this time, it’s going to be solely the concert of “Kame to YamaP”. We both are already over 30 years old, so to experience something for the first time is a luxury. We will also sing the songs we sang in the past, it will be kinda flexible, and I want to show the present Kamenashi Kazuya and Yamashita Tomohisa.
Yamashita: As we start our activities as a duo, the energy which doesn’t come out when I’m doing my solo activities naturally wells up. I’m quite stubborn when I do my solo activities, but when I’m with Kame, I can tolerate various things. I can also do things I’ve never done before, and I can both gain and produce somehing at the same time. It’s all thanks to Kame that my tolerance level becomes higher now!
Q. Please explain a single point of your new album “SI”.
Kamenashi: All the songs are packed with our feelings toward these days. Especially when I sing “Beautiful Days” on my own, I can feel tears welling up in my eyes a little bit. There’s part which links me with YamaP, and during the recording, there are also tunes which can make you feel one gear stepped up. I have my own imagination about the live concept and I’m looking forward to it.
Yamashita: There are many greatly conceptual songs, each one of them has its own story, and it ends up being an album with lots of variety. In the song “Amor”, the word “SI” is included in the lyrics, but when you mirror the word “SI”, it can be read as “15”. I talked with Kame and the producer Tamai-san, “It would be good to include consideration which is like Johnny-san’s”. I want you to grasp that playfulness.
Q. About the self-cover song “Seishun Amigo”
Kamenashi: First I listened to the sound source from that time and I was surprised! Recently, I never listened to my 19-year-old voice so plentifully like that, so it feels kinda nostalgic and also fresh~ (laugh) Both my voice tone and also my way of singing are improved after 15 years. BAILA readers, I hope you’ll listen to the bonus track “Seishun Amigo” which is included in the regular edition.
Yamashita: Recording “Seishun Amigo” again after 15 years, the nuance of the lyrics I felt back then somehow echoes differently at my age now. In that sense, I feel that song is completed as it’s packed with what I feel now. I think those who listen to this song, who grow together with it, can feel that subtle difference of frequency in this song.
To Kame
Your spirit of hospitality is very strong,
So when I go to your house, you’ve prepared oden for me since the night before.
You’re good in taking care of others and you’re like an older brother to me.
It still feels awkward now when we have to look into each others’ eyes at close distance during the shooting (laugh), but you always help me a lot.
Thanks!

To YamaP
For me, P is a partner who can make me feel at ease, and also a partner who can naturally make me speed up my gear.
He gives me really positive stimulus,
and rather than a rival to beat or someone to compare myself too,
he’s a special person beyond such perspectives.
Even when we can’t meet for a while, we always take time to ask each other’s condition like, “Are you doing fine?”.
But, well, we live nearby anyway, so let’s go for a meal again next time.
