I: The workload this time is just as heavy as others isn't it?
G: If you compare my workload with that of my workcrew, mine was a lot less. Everyone in my crew worked very hard because they tried to do it exactly the way I wanted them to do, therefore, the work was more complicated than usual. But they fought very hard. I feel very grateful to them that they accepted the things I wanted, especially the director. I have to thank him very much that he listened to my ideas and went along with the things I wanted. When normally a director would do only the things he wants personally right? If the crew and director didn't listen to me this project wouldn't have been successful. No matter how hard the work is or how much the work is, if I have them by my side I would be motivated and have confidence. Including hyde, if I didn't have him, this project wouldn't have been successful.
I:You were the one who chose hyde to play the role of KEI right?
G: Yes.
I:Why did you choose hyde?
G: It's hard to put it in words. But I couldn't think of anyone else but hyde. In my thoughts, if you think about it in terms of light and dark, hyde would be in the dark category. But those in the dark category can absorb much of the light. For me, I would also be in the dark category, but not in the shadow. Calling it complete dark and shadow is different you know? There's a slight difference, they're like cousins.
I: Before you worked together on this project, did you two meet before?
G: Not personally but I knew that he did music, I knew him through his works. When I said that I wanted hyde to play the role of KEI, everyone was surprised. When hyde agreed to it, everyone was even more suprised *laughs* hyde isn't an actor, he's one to keep his feelings inside and doesn't really show it. Everyone is familiar with this image of his. They said that it was impossible, that hyde wouldn't go for it. So I said that I would go talk to him myself.
I: And you arranged to meet up with hyde?
G: Yes...we met up for a meal, but...I didn't expect him to agree right away though. hyde and I are close friends with the same group of people, and it just happeneed that, that day was a friend's birthday. When I arrived, my friend said that that hyde was coming too. I waited for him. And hyde came an hour late *laughs* We sat there waiting, we hadn't even ordered food yet. hyde walked in and said, "I had a car crash right at the front of the store, sorry" *laughs* Then we ordered food. But by the time hyde came it was already past 10PM, and I don't eat anything after 10PM. So I just sat there drinking beer. hyde came up to me and asked wasn't I going to eat anything. I told him hm....that's okay, after him.
I: Did you two begin talking about the movie yet?
G: I just started casually, I told him that I wanted to do a movie like this, and a fun work like this. And to achieve that, I needed hyde to work with me. If hyde was interested and if he trusted me, would he cooperate?
I: And what did hyde say?
G: He asked me if I was sure, and I told him that I didn't know what others would say, but for me I believed that hyde could do it. I didn't say that just because I trusted hyde, but because I trusted myself too. hyde thought about it for a while, and he told me that he needed some time to think, and asked me to send him the script. I sent it, and four days later hyde agreed to it. We began working just the two of us first, such as checking out the camera angles. I wanted to see photos. After we did that, hyde said that he wanted to start filming soon, and he came to discuss work at my house too.
I: What did you talk about?
G: There were parts of the script that needed fixing, and so we discussed that and changed it until we were both satisfied. I asked him where we should work, my house or his house. hyde then said, "Gacchan's" house.
I: "Gacchan's" house?
G: That's my house, hyde called me that out of nowhere. The name is similar to the Gacchan of Doctor Slum right? (a comic drawn by the famed comic writer, Toriyama Akira, who drew Dragon Ball -D.T.). When he came to my house, he got lost too. He called and asked, "I don't see a house" *laughs* When he arrived, we talked and drank at the sametime. *suddenly Gackt bursts out laughing* I just remembered that when he came to work at my house, hyde said "it's so dark here, I can't read the script" He had to use a lighter to read the script the entire time *laughs*
I: How satisfied are you with the result?
G: I'm very satisfied, the result was much better than I expected it to be. Of course there are parts that aren't to my satisfaction but all in all, I'm very happy with it. It's a Japanese movie, but it doesn't seem like one. When I was filming it, I thought that a movie could be watched by many people, but a drama can't do that right? I want everyone to see it, for the movie to be watched all over the world. The more people watch it, the more happier I get.
I: And how satisfied were you with hyde's acting?
G: If you speak in terms of actors, there are many other actors that are better than hyde. But for this particular role, I think hyde played incredibly well. He portrayed the character very clearly. My role wasn't as cool as hyde's role. *laughs*
I: What do you want to tell the fans about this movie?
G: I want young boys to watch it so they can gain confidence, and trust themselves. When you're young, no matter what you do, you follow your emotions. But when you grow up and go out into the real world, those feelings change and you have to do different things, things that are contrary to your feelings. But in reality, a guy wants to live a life where he can follow his feelings, and do things he's confident in. This movie emphasizes that point, it makes you think of many different perspectives. If females watch it, they would see just how crazy guys are *laughs* They would understand the heart of a man more, I hope this movie has something for everyone.
