theGazettE, who went to play at Tokyo Dome by the end of last year. "Visual Kei" is not enough to describe their music anymore. Now they're delivering a single, the first shot of the year 2011. Keeping the vigor they had at Dome, the songs strike you with their aggressive metal sound.
The meeting and talk with three [of the members], RUKI（Vo）、Reita (Ba) and Kai （Dr）.

─ This time the song [Vortex] is a violent one that will get people at lives all excited, right?
Reita: It was right after Tokyo Dome, so violent songs were a must. Ruki wrote the song, but that's what I really thought when I listened to the demo.
Kai: It's a fresh song, and it gives you the impression that people are going to love it at the lives, doesn't it? It's gonna be a cool song.
─ The two coupling songs are absolutely impressive, too.
Ruki: The second song, "UNCERTAIN SENSE" gives you a European kind of feeling, while the third one "BREAK ME" has more of an America kind of feeling to it.
Reita: That's very roughly put (*laughs*)
Kai: But he's not wrong (*laughs*)
Ruki: The second is industrial and the third is hard-rock. In 3 countries (*laughs*)
─ The title "VORTEX" means 渦 [= swirl, vortex]. Surely the music gives you a swirling, "turning round and round" kind of feeling, but what about the lyrics?
Ruki: As for the tunes and the lyrics, they're not always linked to each to each other and it's not like I get inspiration from the tunes in particular. The kind of feeling we're expressing this time in the lyrics is "When you're alive, dissatisfaction is unavoidable, isn't it?".
Reita: Concerning the lyrics, there are various reactions from the fans. There are people who are like "Give us a translation of the English lyrics", too. Even us [the other Gaze-members], since we don't understand the meaning of Ruki's English lyrics we ask him to translate them for us and thus we get to see things a lil' bit from the fans' point of view (laughs) [XD]
─ How were the lyrics this time?
Reita: Ah, we would have been happy to have been told "they are like this: ...". (*laughs*)
Ruki: Well, these lyrics aren't Reita's thing (*laughs*)
─ As Kai-san said earlier, that song will get people at the lives excited, but speaking about lives, when the March earthquake disaster happened, you had to postpone the FC-only lives you had scheduled, right? Because of that you changed the dates of your performances, but comparing with the time before the disaster and the time after that, do you feel a change in consciousness?
Ruki: It's difficult. If I were to talk as a human being I'd say we naturally came to think about various things, but I honestly don't know what kind of influence it had on us as artists. As for postponing our lives, well we had to do it, so it came naturally, but I don't know how it influenced our music.
─ The last time you released an album was back in 2009, so there are expectations about you releasing an album anytime now, too.
Ruki: Ahh, so much time has passed?
Reita: That's what we think too, it's about time we released one (*laughs*)
─ Having had a performance at Tokyo Dome last year, as well as at Budoukan, you also sold a lot. If that's so, in order to motivate yourselves, where else do you think you'd like to play?
Ruki: Well, when the band started, I thought "I want to play in huge venues! I want to sell CDs!", but right now we're definitely searching for sound quality.
Reita: Last year Dome was definitely our one and only goal, so we 'ran' towards it, but right now it's different. It's more about creating nice things.
Kai: We always have a goal, but like Ruki said, in the past it was more of an exterior/outer kind of thing, but now it's more about the inside/the contents. Though we don't feel like we've achieved the outer part completely (*laughs*)
─ Also, you've had overseas tours, too, and the GazettE is really highly regarded overseas, where people are fond of J-Pop. Have you experienced that yourselves in that area?
Ruki: We haven't, because we haven't seen it yet.
Reita: We haven't been there recently. We're having our hands full with Japan (*laughs*)
Ruki: On the homepage we receive messages from foreign fans and there are so many! They are very passionate. We get the same texts times and times again. (*laughs*)
Kai: Some of them have been translated on translation sites, so they're in broken Japanese (*laughs*)
Reita: They are from Europe, Brazil, Canada and so on. There are harsh comments too, like "I can't stand this" etc. (*laughs*)
─ But well, they also come to the live venues, don't they?
Reita: Rather than the foreigners, we have the impression that recently the number of men who come to see us has increased a bit.
Ruki: Also, the number of cosplayers has decreased, I guess. But they're no ordinary people (*laughs*). They're unique ones. When they move in unison I always think "WHAT THE---?!!!" (*laughs*) [I don't really get what the last part is about .__.;; Edit: I think it's about people who cosplay the GazettE-members and Ruki is probably weirded out when all of them together move like them... or something like that. XD]
Kai: They're helping each other (*laughs*)

Ruki: First of all, I'd be happy if you listened to our music and thought "so, people who create this kind of music do exist after all" [meaning, he wants the listeners to think that GazettE's music is unique]. Because we're a band that is a bit 'detached' from the others that are out there.
Reita: Those 3 songs are core tunes of us, the melody is easy to remember, and the songs are very climactic, so I think they're gonna be fun.
Kai: There are various thing we want to do this year, so there will be many opportunities to witness that. Please look forward to them.
